A ‘lots of updates’ blog

  • by

Oh dear, I’m doing terribly on the blogging front. Well. There has been a lot going on behind the scenes – please see my Instagram for a sample!

The huge news is that my kiln, Kevin arrived today and been installed by the lovely folks from Northern Kilns. I’ve not yet fired him, but I’m very excited. He’s not a massive kiln, but just big enough for me. Given I chose him by mocking up the interior in sheets of A3 paper and by drawing chalk lines in my garage, I’m very happy with the outcome. (He’s called Kevin the kiln because Grayson and Phillipa Perry have a cat called Kevin, and so I thought I’d name my kiln in honour of the Perry family, as I’m a huge fan of both Grayson and Phillipa’s work, so I hope they will forgive me co-opting their cat’s name.)

In the meantime, work is progressing. The yarn bowls from September have been completed and fired – I did a decent number of pots in that last firing and some are available for sale at Mary Chappelhow’s studio gallery at Brougham Hall. I’m keeping my shelves here up to date and have recently added some of my new expresso cups and eggs cups (pictured). I’m really happy with these – having done a few versions over the years, these will be the ‘house style’ for the foreseeable.

The next step is the second raku firing of the year – I’ve made everything, but not bisque fired it yet. So the date is yet to be set, but getting closer.

I’ve also just signed up to take a stall at the Wonderful Wild Women event in Kendal on 11 December jointly with my friend Deb of Bare Foot Clay. We are branching out from raku firings to stall sharing! More details shortly but Christmas present opportunities if you are in the area!

Finally, I have on the to do list (after put up shelves, make some ware boards to carry stuff, put up cupboards, find some time for my Open Uni studies, learn to mix glazes, actually do some work) put some more photos online, so that those of you who don’t live in Cumbria can purchase. I’m afraid I’ll be doing old school – here’s a photo, please give me an email if you would like it – as a starter for ten, rather than swanky online shopping which costs a fortune in website fees, but I do take cards and payments online, so it will still be possible to transact securely.

I’ll try not to take quite so long to update next time!!
